Landfill gas is collected through a system of 181 extraction wells. The collected landfill gas converted to usable energy, as it is piped directly to an industrial end user 33 miles from the Landfill. In addition, the Landfill’s surface and exterior gas probes are also regularly monitored to ensure the landfill gas system is operating properly.
Protection of all water sources is a priority at Blue Ridge Landfill. The Landfill is designed with a highly engineered composite liner system designed to contain any liquids that percolate through the solid waste. The liquids are transferred to a water treatment facility. Surface water at the site is controlled through a series of diversion berms and drainage ditches to preserve its quality. In addition, Blue Ridge Landfill assesses groundwater with 26 individual groundwater monitoring wells. Each well is routinely tested to verify the groundwater’s safety.
The Blue Ridge Landfill team takes multiple steps to protect the environment. All waste is screened to ensure unacceptable waste is not accepted, and our standard operating procedures are designed to exceed the TCEQ standards. More than 700 acres of the Blue Ridge Landfill property is dedicated to non-landfill operations.
